MSSA Events

After 60 editions, the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association has suspended its annual Athletes of the Year dinner. The MSSA now will link with Sport Manitoba for the presentation of awards at the Night of Champions reception, held every spring.

The MSSA continued to co-ordinate voting by the Manitoba Sports Media for the annual selection of the provincial adult team and athletes of the year, and expanded its awards to include voting for the youth team and athletes of the year. Voting is conducted in February and early March.

The selection of the Cactus Jack Wells Sports Impact of the Year award and inductions into the Manitoba Media Roll of Honour also will continue, as will the Jack Matheson Memorial Awards (established to provide financial support to post-secondary students looking to pursue a career in sports journalism or public relations). The MSSA Ron Meyers Memorial Awards will continue to be presented in April, co-ordinated by Basketball Manitoba.
